Creating article variations is the secret to getting maximum SEO benefits from your content.  Previously, internet marketers would submit the same article to 100’s of locations. However, Google started devaluing links from “duplicate content” pages. So if you were to submit the same exact article to 100’s of places, Google will only credit you one link.

Say you want to build links through Article Submission. There are 1000’s of article directories that you can submit to. Unfortunately, it is not viable to write 1000’s of different articles each from scratch. The cost (or time) it takes you to write each article will be lower than the benefit of each.

Creating Article Variations (AKA article spinning) is the process of taking one article and creating variants of it. The simplest form of article spinning is to just interchange the synonyms. Example:

Original Sentence: I like dogs.
Spun Sentence: I (like|love|adore} {dogs|puppies|canines}.

Sentence Variations:

1. I like dogs.
2. I love dogs.
3. I adore dogs.
4. I like puppies.
5. I love puppies.
6. I adore puppies.
7. I like canines.
8. I love canines.
9. I adore canines.

This form of spinning, although better than not spinning at all, provides only a fraction of the benefits of the method of spinning we have developed in house. We keep this method private and do not allow anyone else to use our software. Our brilliant Director of Content Peter used his expertise of the English Language (B.A. in English from Cornell University) to design a new way to create variations of content. He then worked closely with our programmer and programming consultant to make his spinning technique come to reality into a neat software package. Sorry for the lack of details! Let’s just say it is as technical as you can go with language.

Google’s View on Article Spinning. When performing our own tests, we see that when spun correctly, these articles bring us nearly 20x the benefit of submitting the same article to multiple places. Google’s view on article spinning however can best be seen with on-page examples. Many websites use the spinning technique for content on their website.

One example I like is FindLaw.com. FindLaw is a website by Thomson Reuters, a company that revenues over $10 billion per year. FindLaw.com has a Page Rank of 7 and is under 6,000 on Alexa. Even with this ‘high caliber’ property, we can still see instances of spinning. (whether this was done by spinning or rewriting manually, the outcome is still the same)

You can reverse engineer these different variations and come up with a spin sentence that generates all of these variations. Being familiar with this, I have seen examples all over the web.

The Ethics of Article Spinning. We believe that there is a right and wrong way to do article spinning. To do it the right way, our purpose must be to create unique and useful variations.

For example, let’s say we have a tutorial on how to hit a nail. Our purpose to spinning is that each variation correctly teaches the reader how to hit the nail.

1. Each variation is grammatically correct and makes sense. A common problem when spinning is that in the end, the article variations make no sense. While spinning, we always keep the big picture in mind. We have 2 additional steps after the initial article spinning: an editor and quality check.
2. Each variation is useful. We do not want to spam the internet of useless content. Instead, we want to give each blog or article directory a different, yet just as useful, variation of the original. This way the blog/article directory, the reader, and the client whose links we are placing benefit.
