Want More Links? Give to Get

By NancyDavis

We all want deep links that give the best SEO juice and build authority for our site. How are we going to get a more authoritative site to link to us? It is really all about giving links to get links back. This is a very common practice and in reality simple to do. Here is how it works.

Write a great post. It doesn’t matter what your topic is. Just make sure your post is really well done and free of any spelling or grammar errors. Now, to build authority and maybe start getting links back, you need to link to others first. This is why we say we “give to get” we give link love so that we may get some in return. This process can sometimes be slow, but it is without a doubt the best way to get links. Other bloggers love to link to great posts to finish making a point. Make that job easier for them. Be the blogger they want to link to.

Find a relevant post to link to in your post. A good idea is to not include a top blogger’s post. It is rare that they will come see your post, since they get so many pingbacks. Choose a well done post that addresses one of your salient points in your post and give full credit. We all know not to take other people’s work right? Good. Just making sure. We do not want to get into any of that. Use one or maybe two lines of the post, or just link straight to it. What this does is alert the blogger that you used their content and that you are giving them the pingback. That is how you build up credibility with other bloggers.

Reach out to other bloggers in your community. This is a great tactic when starting out. If you can find a few bloggers, you may all join forces to help each other out. Find a blog you really like and want to highlight to your readers. Make sure the content is relevant to what you blog about. This is where many newer bloggers run into trouble. If your post is not relevant to that site, do not link to it. You will look like a spammer, and it is a good way to get yourself banned from a site. A better idea is to just come and comment on the blog and develop a relationship with that blogger.

One word of caution: do not give and expect to get a link back right away. This is not automatic. Unless you approach a blogger about trading link for link, don’t give links if all you want is to get. There are guest posts that you will write that may not have live links. It may have only a mention. Write them anyway. The goodwill that this will build is enormous and worth the effort. If you consistently blog great content, and are generous with giving links, all of that will start coming back to you and your blog.
